The Guinea national football team is facing a significant crisis ahead of their upcoming quarter-final clash against the Democratic Republic of Congo in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled for this Friday in Ivory Coast.
According to reports from the Moroccan website “Al-Batala,” citing Guinean newspapers, players of the Guinean national team refused to participate in training on Wednesday due to the non-payment of their financial entitlements by their country’s football association.
The report states that Guinean journalists present in Ivory Coast immediately pressured officials to ensure the players receive their financial rights.
Subsequently, officials of the Guinean Football Federation convened to find a solution to the issue.
The report highlights the efforts of Guinean football officials to engage in dialogue and calm the situation, aiming to encourage the players to resume training and travel to Abidjan in preparation for the crucial match against the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Guinea secured a spot in the quarter-finals of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations after a last-minute goal secured a 1-0 victory over Equatorial Guinea in the previous match.
The team now faces the challenge of resolving the financial dispute to ensure their participation in the quarter-final clash against Congo.
