Uganda U17 produced an impressive performance to defeat DR Congo 3-0 in their opening Group B match at the TotalEnergies CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2026 on Wednesday.

The East Africans combined discipline, composure, and clinical finishing to secure all three points and move level with Côte d’Ivoire at the top of the group standings.

Uganda gradually took control of the contest and broke the deadlock in the 37th minute through influential midfielder Owen Mukisa.

The goal came after sustained pressure from the East African side, who looked dangerous throughout the first half.

DR Congo struggled to recover before halftime and Uganda struck again deep into stoppage time.

Nicholas Kawooya found the back of the net in the 45+2 minute to hand Uganda a comfortable 2-0 advantage heading into the break.

Any hopes of a comeback were ended in the 82nd minute when Abdulshakur Babi added a third goal to complete an emphatic victory for coach Laryea Kingston’s side.

The convincing win gives Uganda an early advantage in the battle for qualification to the knockout stages and strengthens their hopes of securing a place at the FIFA U-17 World Cup.
