Good news for Morocco coach as Munir El Kajoui returns to action
The last league match involving RS Berkane against COD Meknès in the Professional Championship brought encouraging news for the technical staff of the Morocco national football team.
Veteran goalkeeper Munir El Kajoui returned to competitive action after recovering from injury, starting for Berkane in what was seen as a timely boost ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
His return is considered especially important as he remains one of the key goalkeeping options in Morocco’s national team setup.
Zniti missing from matchday squad
The match also saw the absence of goalkeeper Anas Zniti from the squad list.
Zniti had previously stepped in during El Mohammadi’s absence and delivered solid performances for Berkane after joining the club in the winter transfer window.
However, the latest team sheet showed him left out entirely, with Mehdi Miftah named on the bench instead.
Positive boost for Morocco’s World Cup plans
El Mohammadi’s return comes at a crucial time for national team preparations, with head coach Walid Regragui closely monitoring players ahead of the final squad announcement.
The goalkeeper position has been one of Morocco’s most stable areas in recent years, and the return of experienced figures is expected to strengthen competition within the group.
Fitness race ahead of final squad selection
The Moroccan technical staff are hoping El Mohammadi maintains regular playing time in the coming weeks to regain full match rhythm before the World Cup.
His continued involvement at club level could significantly boost his chances of being included in the final tournament squad, as Morocco fine-tunes their preparations for football’s biggest stage.
