Eintracht Frankfurt has shed light on the reason behind the delayed return of their player Omar Marmoush to training following Egypt’s exit from the Africa Cup of Nations.
The Egyptian national team suffered a defeat against the Democratic Republic of Congo in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in both regular and extra time.
Frankfurt, in an official statement on their Twitter account, explained, “Marmoush is currently suffering from a cold, and that’s why he stayed in Egypt at the moment.”
The cold also caused Marmoush to miss the press conference preceding the Africa Cup of Nations 2023 quarter-final match against the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Marmoush came on as a substitute in the Round of 16 match of the Africa Cup of Nations, successfully converting his penalty kick.
Eintracht Frankfurt is gearing up for a clash against FC Cologne in the 20th round of the German league, scheduled for next Saturday.
Frankfurt currently holds the sixth position in the Bundesliga standings.
