The Tunisian Football Federation announced that its executive committee, during its meeting today, decided to convene a general election session for the 2024-2028 term on March 9th.
The federation emphasized that the Independent Higher Election Authority would later publish all the details regarding the arrangements for the session, noting that the invitation was made in coordination with both the Independent Election Commission and the National Appeals Committee, as well as the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA).
It is worth mentioning that the current term of the federation’s office is set to conclude on March 14, 2024. Wadie Jary, the current president, was elected in 2012 and re-elected in 2016 and 2020.
The call for a general election session is particularly notable as Wadie Jary, the current president of the federation, is currently incarcerated on charges of financial corruption.
This decision also comes amid the turbulent state of Tunisian football, highlighted by the recent withdrawal of the national team from the Africa Cup of Nations held in Ivory Coast during the group stage.
