Egyptian coach Mohamed Omar returns after 4-year hiatus
Veteran Egyptian tactician Mohamed Omar has officially announced his return to the dugout, bringing an end to a self-imposed four-year break from football management.
The former Al-Ittihad Alexandria coach, who last managed the club in August 2022, confirmed that he will resume coaching duties starting next season. His decision marks a significant moment for Egyptian football, as one of its most experienced figures prepares to re-enter the competitive scene.
Speaking in a radio interview with ON Sport FM, Omar explained the reasons behind his prolonged absence. “I was appointed to the House of Representatives during the period 2021–2022, so I decided to stay away from coaching by my own choice because the two roles are incompatible,” he revealed.
Despite stepping away from the touchline, Omar remained a sought-after figure in coaching circles. He disclosed that he received multiple offers from clubs outside Egypt during his time in public service but opted to decline them, choosing instead to focus on his political responsibilities.
Now, with that chapter behind him, the seasoned coach is ready to reignite his managerial career. His return is expected to attract significant interest, given his wealth of experience both domestically and internationally.
Omar’s coaching journey dates back to the 2000–2001 season, when he began his career with Haras El Hodoud SC. Over the years, he has built an extensive résumé, managing several Egyptian clubs including Tala’ea El Gaish SC, Al-Masry SC, Tersana SC, Petrojet SC, Ghazl El Mahalla SC, and Damanhour SC. He also had a spell with Egypt’s U-17 national team, contributing to youth development at the national level.
Beyond Egypt, Omar broadened his horizons with coaching stints at Al-Merreikh SC, Al-Wehdat SC, Al-Jazeera SC, and Saham Club, gaining valuable international experience across different football cultures.
As he prepares for his comeback, anticipation is building over where Omar will land next. With his tactical knowledge, leadership experience, and deep understanding of the game, his return could provide a major boost to any club seeking stability and direction.
For Mohamed Omar, the mission is clear—return stronger, reclaim his place on the sidelines, and add a new chapter to an already distinguished coaching career.
