Tunisian coach rejects chance to coach Wydad

Nasreddine Nabi has opened up on his decision to turn down the opportunity to coach Wydad Athletic Club following the departure of Patrice Carteron.

The Tunisian tactician disclosed details of discussions held with club president Hicham Ait Mana, confirming he was approached to take charge of the team after Carteron’s dismissal.

Despite the strong interest, Nabi explained that he declined the offer due to the timing, stating that stepping in midway through the season would present significant challenges. He pointed to the congested fixture schedule and the pressure of decisive matches as key reasons behind his decision.

According to Nabi, the limited preparation time would not have allowed him to properly implement his tactical philosophy, prompting him to hold off on accepting any role under such conditions.

He further revealed that his name had been under serious consideration by Wydad’s management even before Carteron’s appointment in April, alongside Hussein Ammouta.

Nabi added that he remains open to taking charge of the club, but only at the start of the next season, when he would have adequate time to build and shape the team according to his vision.

In the meantime, Wydad have moved swiftly to appoint Mohamed Benchrifa as interim head coach until the end of the current campaign, following Carteron’s exit by mutual agreement.
