Brighton’s big price tag for Carlos Baleba stuns Man United
Manchester United’s hopes of signing Carlos Baleba have hit a major snag, with Brighton & Hove Albion making it clear they will not entertain offers in the region of £50m.
Despite suggestions the 22-year-old Cameroonian might be available for a reduced fee after an up-and-down season, talkSPORT reports Brighton want a significantly higher sum and are targeting a hefty profit on the midfielder they bought for £23m in 2023.
Baleba is still viewed as a key target by Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s recruitment team, even though his form under Fabian Hurzeler has been patchy. He has been substituted in 15 Premier League games this season, with four of those changes coming at half-time, highlighting his inconsistency. Yet he reminded everyone of his potential with a strong 90-minute display in Brighton’s commanding 3-0 win over Chelsea.
The powerful Cameroon international has made 27 Premier League appearances this campaign but is still chasing his first goal or assist. With Tony Bloom renowned as a tough negotiator and Baleba under contract until 2028, United know any deal will be difficult and expensive, forcing them to consider how far they are willing to push their interest this summer.
