Ashraf Sobhi, the Minister of Youth and Sports, has shed light on the future of the Egyptian Football Association in the upcoming period following Egypt’s exit from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
In radio statements, Ashraf Sobhi emphasized that there is currently no intention for the Egyptian Football Association to step down, aiming to avoid getting entangled in new complexities.
The Minister of Youth and Sports added that dismissing the football association five months before the elections would plunge them into a whirlwind, a scenario they are keen to avoid, especially considering that the association’s elections are scheduled seven months from now.
He remarked, “The role of the football association in the past and current seasons has been solely focused on the national teams, especially after the existence of the Club Association, which oversees the Egyptian Premier League.
The association’s role is to elevate our national team to the highest positions, and our duty is to provide all the necessary resources.”
Sobhi pointed out that the Africa Cup of Nations 2023 was postponed, and with the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations scheduled in Morocco, this leads to a congested schedule involving World Cup qualifiers and the African championship.
He highlighted the competitive atmosphere in the upcoming season due to Morocco hosting the tournament.
