The Democratic Republic of Congo’s National Football League (Linafoot) is considering a revised format for its 19th edition to expedite the season and align itself with other African countries. Linafoot aims to forgo the traditional championship structure and introduce group stages.
In the proposed format, the 16 clubs in the championship would be divided into two groups of eight teams each. Prior to the draw, TP Mazembe, the outgoing champion, is designated as the top seed for Group A, while AS Vita Club, the runner-up, is the top seed for Group B.
Following the group stage, the top two teams from each group would advance to the Play-offs phase. After this mini-championship, the top two teams would qualify for the Champions League, and the third-placed team would earn a spot in the CAF Cup.
