Former Nigeria captain Ahmed Musah inspires Kano Pillars to victory over Rivers United
Former Nigeria forward Ahmed Musa delivered a match-winning performance as Kano Pillars F.C. secured a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Rivers United F.C. in a fiercely contested Nigeria Premier Football League encounter.
The experienced forward proved decisive on the day, scoring both goals to guide his side to an important win in front of their supporters. Kano Pillars began the match with purpose, and it was Musa who gave them the early advantage, finishing off a well-worked move to put the hosts in control.
Rivers United, however, showed resilience and responded with determination. Their persistence paid off when Surajudeen Hassan—popularly known as “Handsome Surveyor”—found the equaliser, restoring parity and setting up a tense battle for supremacy.
With the score locked at 1–1 and both sides pushing for a winner, the contest grew increasingly intense as the second half wore on. Just when it seemed the points might be shared, Musa once again rose to the occasion. The Nigerian international struck late in the game, netting his sixth goal of the season to restore Kano Pillars’ lead and ultimately seal all three points.
His clinical finishing and leadership in crucial moments underscored his enduring quality and importance to the team, especially in tight encounters where experience often makes the difference.
Despite the setback, Rivers United remain firmly in contention near the top of the table, holding second place with 58 points. Kano Pillars, meanwhile, boost their campaign with the victory, sitting 12th on 45 points as they look to climb further up the standings.
In a match defined by grit, determination, and decisive moments, it was Musa’s brilliance that ultimately separated the two sides—once again proving why he remains one of the standout figures in Nigerian football.
