Speaking to the German agency SID, Odonkor cited his desire to dedicate more time to his family as the primary reason for his decision. “I have to think about my family, that’s why I’m stopping,” he stated.
Despite retiring from playing, Odonkor remains closely connected to his beloved sport. He is set to embark on a new journey in coaching, transitioning to the next phase of his career.
One of the standout moments in Odonkor’s career was his decisive goal (1-0) against Poland during the 2006 World Cup group stage, while playing for Borussia Dortmund. Throughout his career, which included stints with clubs like Betis Sevilla, Aachen, and Hoverla Uzhhorod, the midfielder faced multiple setbacks due to knee injuries that ultimately had a significant impact on the trajectory of his football career.
