The stage is set for a defining night in Moroccan football as AS FAR take on RS Berkane in the decisive second leg of their CAF Champions League semi-final on Saturday.

Holding a 2-0 advantage from the first leg, AS FAR head into the clash at the Municipal Stadium of Berkane with one foot in the final, chasing a first appearance at that stage in 40 years. But the hosts remain hopeful of staging a dramatic turnaround on home soil.

AS FAR manager Alexandre Santos struck a cautious tone ahead of the encounter, insisting his side cannot afford complacency despite their strong position.

“It’s a great honour to be here. This is the first time in 40 years that AS FAR has reached this stage, and it marks a historic milestone for the club,” he said.

The Portuguese tactician likened the situation to a halftime lead, warning that the tie is far from decided.

“There is no clear favourite. It’s like going into the dressing room at halftime leading 2-0—you still have at least 90 minutes to play. We’ve spent 14 months building this team, and we’ll stay true to our philosophy: control possession, create chances, and keep a clean sheet.”

On the other bench, RS Berkane coach Moine Chaabani acknowledged the scale of the challenge but remains confident his side can respond.

“We are playing against both the result and the clock,” he admitted. “AS FAR has shown consistency and quality throughout the competition, but we have prepared mentally and physically all week to overcome the first-leg setback.”

Chaabani promised an intense contest, with his team ready to fight until the end in pursuit of a place in the final.

“We know it won’t be easy, but we will give everything to secure qualification,” he added.

Regardless of the outcome, Morocco is guaranteed representation in the final, underlining the growing strength of its domestic league on the continental stage. While AS FAR carry the advantage, the hostile atmosphere in Berkane could yet prove decisive.

Historically, the rivalry has been closely contested. In their last 30 meetings, AS FAR have won nine times, with RS Berkane claiming eight victories, while 13 matches have ended in draws.

Kick-off for the second leg is scheduled for Saturday, April 18 at 19:00 GMT, with live coverage available on beIN Sports, Azam Sports, SuperSport and Canal+.
