Lamine Yamal all fired up ahead of Barcelona's second leg clash against Atletico Madrid

FC Barcelona youngster Lamine Yamal has expressed strong confidence in his side’s ability to overturn their deficit against Atlético Madrid, despite trailing 2-0 after the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final.

Speaking ahead of the decisive return fixture, the teenage star dismissed the idea of relying on miracles, instead stressing belief in the team’s identity and approach.

“I think we are a young team, and we all love this club, and we have shown that many times. What we have done throughout the season is fight for this badge, and we have a great desire to be in the semi-finals again, and tomorrow we will give it our all,” he said.

He continued, “We must play as we know how, with intensity, but without losing our style. That is the key. We must not think that a comeback is a miracle, but rather that we should play our way even though we start with a 2-0 score.”

Shared Responsibility in the Squad

Addressing expectations placed on him, Yamal was quick to highlight the collective strength within the squad.

“I don’t think it depends solely on me. We have very high-quality players, experienced and world-class players. But if that’s the case, it won’t bother me, and I have confidence in my team.”

Dreams on the Biggest Stage

The young forward also spoke passionately about his ambitions in Europe’s elite competition.

“It is one of the most important tournaments in football, and I always dreamed of scoring goals in it with Barcelona. I hope to win it and the World Cup with Spain.”

Inspired by Neymar

Yamal did not hide his admiration for former Barcelona star Neymar Jr., crediting him as a major influence. “He is my role model and made my childhood, a player who inspires everyone, and you pay for a ticket to watch him.”

Commitment to the Club

Concluding his remarks, Yamal emphasised the team’s unity and determination to fight until the very end.

“We are all sons of the club, and we love Barcelona, and we will fight until the end. When things don’t go as I want, I try to help the team and give my all, because that is the only thing that matters to me.”
