Yannis El Bakraoui could earn a place in Morocco's squad for 2026 FIFA World Cup

Morocco head coach Mohamed Ouahbi made a notable appearance in Portugal as he monitored the progress of one of the Atlas Lions’ rising stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The spotlight was on Yannis El Bakraoui, who once again showcased his goal-scoring ability for G.D. Estoril Praia during their league clash against FC Porto in the 29th round of the Portuguese top flight.

Despite Estoril falling to a 2-1 defeat, El Bakraoui delivered another standout performance, finding the back of the net and continuing his impressive run of form in front of goal. His display did not go unnoticed, with Ouahbi watching closely from the stands.

The Moroccan forward has been enjoying a prolific campaign, registering 19 league goals along with two assists, firmly establishing himself as one of the standout attacking players in Portugal this season.

His versatility across the front line, whether deployed centrally or out wide, has further enhanced his appeal to the national team setup, with the coach clearly keeping tabs on his development as preparations for the global tournament gather pace.
