Yan Diomande late rocket keeps RB Leipzig on Champions League track

RB Leipzig tightened their grip on third place in the Bundesliga with a hard-earned 1-0 victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach at the Red Bull Arena, settled by a thunderbolt from teenager Yan Diomande.

With ten minutes left and tension rising, the young forward darted onto a clever through ball from Christoph Baumgartner and lashed a brilliant finish beyond Moritz Nicolas, igniting the home crowd and sealing Leipzig’s third straight league win.

For long spells it had been a frustrating afternoon for Marco Rose’s side. Leipzig controlled possession but struggled to find rhythm in the final third, despite Ridle Baku twice going close before half-time, including a one-on-one that Nicolas did well to block. Gladbach were organised and dangerous on the break, with Rocco Reitz and Haris Tabakovic repeatedly asking questions of the hosts’ defence but lacking a decisive touch.

After the interval, Leipzig kept probing through their full-backs as David Raum and Xaver Schlager drew further saves from the inspired Nicolas. The visitors almost snatched a dramatic equaliser when Fabio Chiarodia rattled the bar from close range, but Leipzig survived that scare to claim a vital win that keeps their Champions League return firmly within reach.
