Thorsten Fink’s departure from HSV Hamburg, the German football club, has been officially confirmed. The coach took matters into his own hands and didn’t wait for the team’s next league match for the leaders to decide his fate. Instead, Fink announced his departure on Tuesday via radio Norddeutscher Rundfunk, as reported by Bild.
Fink, a former Bayern Munich midfielder (1997-2003), had joined Hamburg in October 2011 from FC Basel. His departure comes with the team, including Cameroonian player Jacques Zoua, currently positioned in 15th place in the German championship. The decision follows a significant defeat against Dortmund last weekend. Despite Fink’s announcement, the club has not yet officially confirmed the departure of the coach.
