Patrick Dorgu amazed by Man United’s worldwide reach

Patrick Dorgu has admitted he only truly understood how massive Manchester United is when he joined the club on their pre-season tour of Malaysia.

The young defender was stunned by the sea of supporters who turned up so far from Manchester, creating an atmosphere that felt like a home game.

“The youngster admitted the experience was eye-opening. ‘I didn’t realise how big the club was globally. That was a proper moment.’” For Dorgu, those scenes underlined the responsibility that comes with wearing United’s shirt.

He has already enjoyed a standout moment on the pitch, scoring at the Emirates Stadium before suffering a hamstring injury in the same game. Reflecting on that day, he said: “I knew I’d done something to my hamstring, but at the same time I knew I’d done something big with the goal.”

Dorgu began his professional career with Lecce in 2023, spending two seasons in Serie A before sealing a move to United in 2025. Now, as he works his way back from injury, the 21-year-old is determined to repay the faith of the club’s vast global fanbase.
