Liverpool FC are reportedly preparing to make a major financial statement in the transfer market as the club line up Belgian international of Ivorian descent, Johan Bakayoko, as a potential long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah.

The Reds have identified the 22-year-old as one of their primary targets ahead of the summer window, with plans already underway to reinforce their attacking options.

Bakayoko, who currently plays for RB Leipzig, is seen as an ideal fit for Liverpool’s evolving frontline. His pace, technical ability, and direct style of play have caught the attention of the Anfield hierarchy, who are bracing for life after Salah.

The Egyptian forward has been a cornerstone of Liverpool’s success in recent years, but with uncertainty surrounding his future, the club is actively scouting for a younger, dynamic winger capable of filling the void. Bakayoko’s profile—young, explosive, and tactically versatile—fits the blueprint of Liverpool’s long-term project.

Despite his promise, the Belgian winger has endured an injury-disrupted campaign, making just 16 appearances for Leipzig this season. Nevertheless, he has still managed to contribute three goals, underlining his attacking threat when fit.

Bakayoko only joined Leipzig in the summer of 2025 from PSV Eindhoven in a deal worth €18 million, and the Bundesliga side are under no pressure to sell. With a contract running until 2030, Leipzig are in a strong negotiating position and have reportedly made it clear that any interested club—including Liverpool—will have to pay a significant fee to secure his services.

Valued at around €22 million according to Transfermarkt, Bakayoko’s price could rise considerably given his potential and the growing interest from top European clubs.

As Liverpool prepare for a possible transition in their attack, all eyes will be on whether they follow through with their interest and make a decisive move for one of Belgium’s brightest young talents
