Liverpool condemn racist abuse directed at Ibrahima Konate after Galatasaray win

Liverpool have issued a strong statement condemning racist abuse aimed at defender Ibrahima Konate in the aftermath of their 4-0 Champions League win over Galatasaray at Anfield.

The French centre-back had been involved in a first-half challenge with Victor Osimhen, who later suffered a fractured forearm, and was subsequently targeted with vile messages on social media.

In their official response, Liverpool described the abuse as “appalling and disgusting”, stressing that “it is dehumanising, cowardly and rooted in hate. Racism has no place in football or society.” The club confirmed they are giving Konate their full support and are cooperating with the relevant authorities to help identify and punish those responsible.

The Premier League also condemned the incident, reiterating that discrimination of any kind will not be tolerated and warning that offenders face stadium bans and potential legal action.

Liverpool further called on social media companies to do far more to prevent and remove racist content, insisting that meaningful action is urgently needed to protect players and all users from such abuse.
