Thiago Pitarch may have chosen to represent Spain over Morocco
The Moroccan Football Federation, led by Fouzi Lekjaa, made efforts to convince Real Madrid rising star Thiago Pitarch to represent the Atlas Lions rather than Spain, but their plans have been thwarted.
Pitarch, 18, recently drew attention after being promoted to Real Madrid’s first team under coach Alvaro Arbeloa. His talent quickly made him a target for Morocco, which hoped to secure his international allegiance.
However, according to the Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, the Spanish Federation successfully blocked Morocco’s attempts, keeping Pitarch committed to Spain. He has been included in the Spanish under-19 national team for the decisive qualifying round of the European Championship, set to take place in Wales next summer.
The critical matches will be held in Alicante from March 25 to 31. Pitarch will join coach Paco Gallardo’s squad alongside four other Real Madrid players: Jesus Fortia, Mario Rivas, Diego Aguado, and Dani Yanez.
Spain’s coach, Luis de la Fuente, confirmed in a press conference that Thiago Pitarch has chosen to play for Spain, ending Morocco’s hopes of securing one of Europe’s most promising young talents.
