Hugo Ekitike thrilled with Liverpool statement win over Galatasaray
Hugo Ekitike could not hide his delight after Liverpool’s dominant 4-0 win over Galatasaray secured their place in the Champions League quarter-finals.
The striker led the line superbly at Anfield, getting on the scoresheet and causing problems all night for the Turkish side.
Speaking afterwards, Ekitike praised the collective effort and admitted the scoreline could have been even heavier. “We deserve to be here. We did a great job tonight, we could have won 10-0 but we missed some chances,” he said, reflecting the confidence running through the squad.
“We still did a good job, we can be proud of ourselves and look forward to the quarter-finals,” he added, emphasising how much the performance meant to the team. He also highlighted the importance of their reaction after Liverpool missed a penalty just before half time.
“We needed this [result]. We missed the penalty at the end of the first half, and when I was sat in the dressing room at half time I was thinking we needed to keep our performance up,” Ekitike explained. “I had my chance, I could have scored more – but we felt free, and everybody did a great job, ran for each other and that’s why we won.”
