Nigeria star Victor Osimhen secures major bonus for Galatasaray teammates ahead of Liverpool return clash
Nigeria international Victor Osimhen has reportedly played a decisive role in securing a major financial incentive for his teammates at Galatasaray S.K. ahead of their crucial clash with Liverpool F.C. in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16.
The Turkish giants goes into the return clash with a slender advantage after narrowly triumphing over the Premier League clash last Tuesday. Osimhen was instrumental, assisting Gabriel Sara to slot home the match-winner.
However, the idea for the bonus reportedly came directly from Osimhen. The Nigerian striker is said to have raised the proposal during discussions between the players and the club’s leadership, asking that the team be rewarded if they manage to complete the job against the English side.
Following a fruitful negotiations, the president of Galatasaray, Dursun Özbek agreed to pay a €5 million bonus to the players should the team manage to eliminate Liverpool at Anfield.
“Victor Osimhen said, ‘If we eliminate Liverpool, let the bonus be €5m,’ and President Dursun Özbek accepted this,” Turkish journalist, Ali Naci Küçük disclosed.
The request was reportedly immediately granted by the club president, demonstrating the belief within Galatasaray’s leadership that the team is capable of producing a historic result in Europe.
Osimhen’s involvement in negotiating the potential reward also highlights his growing leadership presence within the dressing room. Beyond his goal-scoring responsibilities, the striker appears determined to motivate the squad and ensure that their efforts are properly recognized should they achieve the difficult task of knocking Liverpool out of the competition.
For Galatasaray, progressing to the quarter-finals would represent a significant milestone in their European campaign. Defeating a club with Liverpool’s pedigree would not only boost the club’s reputation but also signal their ability to compete with Europe’s elite.
With the first-leg advantage and a €5 million incentive now on the line, Galatasaray’s players head into the second leg with added motivation. All eyes will be on Osimhen and his teammates as they attempt to finish the job and secure a place in the next round of Europe’s most prestigious club competition.
