UCL: Brahim Diaz impresses with an assist in Real Madrid’s big win against Manchester City
Moroccan forward Brahim Diaz assisted a goal for Real Madrid on Wednesday night, helping the team to thump Manchester City 3-0 in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie.
The match at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu saw Real Madrid take control early. In the 20th minute, Thibaut Courtois initiated a move by passing to Federico Valverde, who found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper. Valverde’s clever dummy left the keeper stranded, allowing him to calmly lift the ball into the net for the opening goal.
Seven minutes later, Valverde doubled the lead, finishing clinically after receiving a pass inside the penalty area that found the bottom right corner. His precise strike gave Real Madrid a commanding advantage.
Diaz then showcased his creative quality in the 42nd minute, setting up Valverde for the third goal. The Moroccan midfielder’s perfectly timed pass allowed Valverde to slot the ball home from close range, leaving the Manchester City goalkeeper helpless and giving the hosts a 3-0 cushion going into the second leg.
Manchester City had a chance to reduce the deficit in the 58th minute when Vinicius Junior stepped up for a penalty, but Donnarumma produced a brilliant save, keeping the scoreline intact.
On the matchday. Diaz lasted 76 minutes before making way for Franco Mastantuono.
