Kasim Adams: Ghanaian centre-back linked with move to Finnish side KuPS

Kasim Adams has completed a free transfer to Kuopion Palloseura, joining the Finnish side from a spell without a club on a deal running from 2026-03-09 to 2027-12-31. The 30-year-old Ghanaian centre-back arrives in Kuopio with a current market value of €450k, adding top-level experience to a KuPS squad preparing for domestic and potentially European challenges in the Veikkausliiga.

The move sees Adams return to club football after his most recent registered employer, Servette FC, and a subsequent period listed as “Without Club.” KuPS have taken advantage of his free-agent status, with no transfer fee involved in the deal. The signing also underlines the Veikkausliiga club’s intent to strengthen their defensive options with a physically imposing, 1.90m right-footed central defender who has accumulated experience across several European leagues.

Adams’ arrival brings a notable résumé to Finland. Developed in Spain with CD Leganés U19 and RCD Mallorca B, he progressed to RCD Mallorca’s first team before a loan to Swiss side BSC Young Boys, which later became a permanent transfer. His performances in Switzerland – where his market value once climbed as high as €8.5m – earned him a move to the Bundesliga with TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. Subsequent spells included a loan to Fortuna Düsseldorf, another loan and later a stay at FC Basel 1893, and most recently Servette FC before his contract there ended and he became a free agent.

The defender’s club journey has taken him through LaLiga 2 and Spanish youth ranks, the Swiss Super League, the German Bundesliga, and the Swiss top flight again, before this switch to the Veikkausliiga. That breadth of experience across different tactical cultures is likely a key factor in KuPS’ decision to secure his signature, particularly as the Finnish side look to maintain competitiveness in both domestic competition and continental qualifiers.

Born in Accra on 22 Jun 1995, Adams now adds Finland to the list of countries in which he has played professionally, continuing a career spent entirely abroad rather than in his native Ghana. His career market-value curve shows a defender who has operated at a significantly higher valuation in the past before stabilising at his current €450k level going into this contract with KuPS.

For KuPS, the acquisition represents a low-risk, potentially high-reward reinforcement in a key area of the pitch, given that no fee has been paid and the club is picking up a player with Bundesliga and European experience. For Adams, the move offers a platform to re-establish himself as a key starter at club level, extend his longevity in European football, and potentially position himself for either a longer stay in Finland or another move later in his career once this KuPS contract reaches its end date of 2027-12-31.
