Explosive moment: Moroccan international Ismaël Saibari loses temper during PSV vs AZ clash
PSV midfielder Ismaël Saibari drew attention during his side’s match against AZ after visibly losing his temper and storming down the tunnel at half-time.
The Moroccan international left the pitch in frustration following the first half of the Eredivisie encounter, with television footage capturing the moment he headed toward the dressing rooms.
Despite the incident, PSV went on to secure a 2–1 victory in the match.
Images broadcast by ESPN showed Saibari walking off the field angrily and heading into the tunnel alongside assistant coach Ibrahim Afellay shortly before the interval.
The episode came after a tense opening half in which the midfielder appeared increasingly frustrated with the flow of the game.
Frustration during the first half
During the first half, Saibari was involved in several challenges and appeared unhappy with decisions made on the pitch.
Moments before the break, he was seen reacting angrily toward referee Sander van der Eijk.
His frustration seemed to escalate as the half drew to a close, ultimately leading to the moment captured by television cameras when he left the field visibly upset.
Commenting on the situation, former footballer and analyst Marciano Vink suggested the player may have been struggling during the match.
“He wasn’t feeling well at all,” Marciano Vink explained regarding the possible reason why the Moroccan stormed off the field.
Vink also highlighted the emotional pressure players can experience during difficult moments in a match.
“He was extremely irritated. I completely understand that when things aren’t going well, when you’re not really involved in the game and you’re on the receiving end of some fouls, you’re bound to get frustrated.”
Match outcome
Despite the tension surrounding the incident, PSV managed to regain control after the break and eventually secured the victory.
The home side defeated AZ 2–1, ensuring they collected all three points from the encounter.
While the match result ultimately went in PSV’s favour, the moment involving Saibari became one of the most talked-about incidents from the game, with footage circulating widely after the final whistle.
