Barcelona consider alternatives to summer target Omar Marmoush amid uncertainty to land Egyptian forward

Barcelona are reportedly looking at other attackers amid uncertainty around summer target Omar Marmoush.

The Spanish giants are exploring potential options to strengthen their attack as the club prepares for life after Robert Lewandowski.

The veteran striker is approaching the final stage of his contract and will turn 38 next August, raising questions about who could lead the Catalan club’s frontline in the near future.

Since arriving at Barcelona in 2022, Lewandowski has been a crucial figure for the team, scoring 115 goals in 179 appearances and helping maintain the club’s attacking dominance over the past four seasons. However, with his future uncertain, the club has started identifying possible successors.

According to The Athletic, one of the top names on sporting director Deco’s shortlist is Julián Álvarez, currently playing for Atlético Madrid.

The 27-year-old forward is believed to be open to the idea of joining Barcelona, and sources within the club suggest that the Catalans could be in a financial position to make a competitive offer.

Despite that interest, Atlético are under no pressure to sell. Álvarez remains a key part of Diego Simeone’s squad and is tied to the Madrid club until 2030. His market value is reportedly between €112 million and €130 million, which could complicate any potential deal.

Even though Álvarez has endured a quieter campaign, scoring just once in La Liga since November, Barcelona’s decision makers are said to admire his technical qualities. His pressing ability and willingness to drop deep and link play are viewed as valuable attributes for the team’s tactical setup.

At this stage, no formal negotiations have taken place, and the Spanish giants may look elsewhere if Atlético raise their financial demands beyond reach. Another name that has surfaced is Harry Kane of Bayern Munich, although a move for the 32-year-old striker appears unlikely. A previous €65 million release clause in Kane’s contract expired in January, and Barcelona are generally reluctant to invest heavily in players over the age of thirty.

Among the alternative options being monitored is Omar Marmoush, who currently plays for Manchester City. Marmoush is reportedly on a secondary shortlist of attacking targets, along with Victor Osimhen, who is currently featuring for Galatasaray.

Reports suggest that Barcelona are only monitoring the situation of these players for now, despite claims that the club had already opened discussions with Marmoush’s representatives. Spanish outlet Sport previously indicated that Barcelona manager Hansi Flick admires the Egyptian forward, even though his role at Manchester City has diminished under Pep Guardiola.

Marmoush joined City in January 2025 after an impressive spell with Eintracht Frankfurt, where he gained attention for his attacking displays in the Bundesliga. However, his opportunities have been limited since moving to England, largely due to the dominance of star striker Erling Haaland in the team’s attacking line.

With Barcelona carefully assessing their options, the race to eventually replace Lewandowski remains wide open as the club plans for the next chapter of its attacking future.
