Dortmund eye move to sign Austrian-Ghanaian defender Samson Baidoo next summer

German giants Borussia Dortmund are interested in signing Austrian-born defender of Ghanaian descent, Samson Baidoo in the next summer transfer window.

Central defence has become a pressing concern for Dortmund. Emre Can is sidelined long-term with a torn cruciate ligament, while his contract is set to expire.

Niklas Süle appears unlikely to have his deal renewed, and uncertainty surrounds Nico Schlotterbeck amid ongoing transfer speculation.

According to a source, Baidoo, 21, currently at RC Lens since the summer of 2025, has become an automatic starter, featuring in 20 competitive matches with two goals and two assists, though he is presently sidelined with a thigh injury. He remains contracted to Lens until 2030.

Baidoo’s performances have attracted interest from several top European clubs, including Inter Milan, Liverpool FC, Manchester City FC, Crystal Palace FC, and West Ham United.

Lens are reportedly unwilling to sell cheaply and are expected to only consider offers of €45 million or more.

Dortmund will need to meet that valuation if they hope to secure the Austrian-Ghanaian centre-back next summer.
