Kylian Mbappe set for three weeks out with knee injury

Kylian Mbappe is facing a spell on the sidelines, with reports in Spain claiming the Real Madrid star will miss around three weeks due to his persistent left knee problem.

Cadena SER’s Carrusel programme reports that the club hope to have him back in time for the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 against Manchester City.

The 27-year-old is already ruled out of Monday’s La Liga trip to Getafe and is expected to sit out several more fixtures as Madrid take a more cautious approach. Mbappe has been dealing with this knee sprain since December, when it first appeared after a 2–0 home defeat to Celta Vigo, yet he has still managed an incredible 23 goals in 23 league appearances this season.

Even so, the recurring discomfort has limited his minutes and forced him to miss key matches, including the Spanish Super Cup semi-final against Atlético Madrid and Alvaro Arbeloa’s debut as first-team coach against Albacete in the Copa del Rey.

He did complete 90 minutes and score in a 2–0 win over Levante before Christmas, but a recent flare-up in training has now convinced Real Madrid to impose a structured recovery period rather than risking further damage.
