Manchester United delay Kobbie Mainoo contract talks as midfielder shines under Michael Carrick

Manchester United have still not formally resumed contract negotiations with rising midfield star Kobbie Mainoo, according to a report from The Sun relayed by Tribuna.

The 20-year-old turned down an opening proposal over a year ago and, for a time, slipped to the fringes of Ruben Amorim’s squad, even considering a loan move before the Portuguese coach was dismissed.

Since Michael Carrick took charge, Mainoo’s situation has changed dramatically. The academy graduate has become a key figure in midfield, earning regular starts and quickly establishing himself as one of the most important young players at Old Trafford.

Despite his growing influence, Manchester United are yet to push ahead with fresh talks over a long-term deal.

Mainoo’s current contract runs until 2027, but the club hold a one-year extension option, effectively giving them until 2028 to secure his future and structure his “next big deal.”
