The Senegal national football team, known as the Lions, has qualified for the last round of the 2014 World Cup qualifiers, scheduled to begin in October 2014. However, the team faces a challenging situation due to the suspension of the Léopold Senghor stadium, where they usually play home matches. The stadium was suspended following incidents that occurred on October 10, 2012, against Ivory Coast.
As a result, all of Senegal’s recent matches have been played away from home, with venues including Guinea Conakry, Marrakech, Luanda, and Monrovia. Despite this, the team has performed well and secured a place in the final round.
However, the suspension of the Léopold Senghor stadium is expected to last until December 2014, posing financial and logistical challenges for Senegal. Each away match for the national team reportedly costs 250 million, and the team will continue to play their home matches in other countries until the stadium suspension is lifted. The draw for the final round is scheduled for September 16, 2014, and Senegal will play their first matches in October, away from home.
