Kylian Mbappe suffers fresh knee injury in Real Madrid training
Kylian Mbappe was forced to cut short Real Madrid training on Tuesday after feeling pain in his left knee, raising fresh concerns over his fitness ahead of a crucial run of games.
L’Equipe report that the issue is linked to the same problem that recently kept him out of the match against Real Betis.
Although he has since returned to the squad, it is clear Mbappe is still not at full fitness, especially with the decisive Champions League second leg against Benfica on the horizon.
The situation also contrasts with Arbeloa’s recent insistence that the French star is ready to play, adding another layer of uncertainty around how much he can realistically contribute.
Mbappe remains Real Madrid’s standout attacking threat and their top scorer this season by a distance, consistently delivering in front of goal.
Interestingly, the team have often found different routes to goal and at times looked more fluid collectively when he has been absent. Even so, any setback to a player of his stature is a major worry, and his knee will be monitored closely in the days leading up to the Benfica clash.
