Ivory Coast star Franck Kessié powers Al-Ahli to crucial away victory over Damac FC in Saudi top-flight
Ivorian midfielder Franck Kessie proved decisive once again as he scored the only goal to hand Al-Ahli Saudi FC a vital victory in the Saudi Pro League on 23 February.
In the postponed Matchday 10 fixture, Al-Ahli travelled to face Damac FC knowing that three points were crucial to their ambitions this season. It was Kessié who rose to the occasion, breaking the deadlock in the 37th minute with a composed finish to put the visitors ahead.
Neither side managed to add to the scoreline after the break, as Al-Ahli held firm to secure a hard-fought 1-0 triumph on the road.
The goal marked Kessié’s second of the campaign in 18 appearances in the Saudi Pro League, adding to the single assist he has registered so far this season.
The former Barcelona and AC Milan star demonstrated his importance to Al-Ahli, delivering when it mattered most to ensure his side returned home with maximum points.
Kessie joined Al Ahli in summer 2023 and has since established himself as a key member of the Al Ahli team. Despite his contract expiring at the end of the season, the 29-year-old has yet to sign a new deal with the Asian club.
At the international level, the midfielder has made 98 appearances for the Ivory Coast national team, scoring 14 goals across the period.
