Lys Mousset, the Lys Mousset of Sheffield United, has confirmed his desire to represent Senegal national football team, I have always told my father that I wanted to play for Senegal. Now, I am just waiting for the call from coach Aliou Cissé,” Mousset told the Senegalese sports daily Record, as quoted by the Senegalese Press Agency (APS).
Born in France and a graduate of the Le Havre AC academy, Mousset has made a strong impression this season with five goals and four assists. He also describes himself as a “cousin” of Edouard Mendy, the Rennes goalkeeper who guards the Lions’ net, emphasizing both the talent and camaraderie within the national squad.
While eager to join Senegal, Mousset is aware of the competition he would face for a spot in the team. The striker would be vying with established forwards such as Mbaye Niang (Rennes), Famara Diedhiou (Bristol City), Habib Diallo (Metz), and Moussa Konaté (Amiens), making competition for the forward positions fierce.
With his Premier League experience and versatility, Mousset could provide valuable depth and attacking options for Senegal if Aliou Cissé responds positively to his interest, further strengthening the squad as they prepare for upcoming international competitions.
