Santy Ngom’s stint at Stade Malherbe Caen appears to be approaching an end. The Senegalese international, who joined the Ligue 2 side last summer, has struggled to establish himself in the first team and was eventually relegated to the reserve squad by coach Pascal Dupraz. This demotion sparked a legal dispute between the player and the club.
Following his exclusion from the first team, Ngom promptly appealed to the legal committee of the Professional Football League (LFP). The committee ruled in his favor, ordering Caen to reinstate him immediately. While the club complied with the decision, tensions between the player and the management have only worsened since.
Further complications arose when French newspaper Ouest-France reported that Ngom was suspended for half a day due to missing the weigh-in on January 27. Ngom, represented by his lawyer, has contested the sanction, arguing that he was excluded from the first team at the time and therefore should not be penalized.
With misunderstandings accumulating, both parties are now exploring a potential amicable termination of Ngom’s contract, which currently runs until 2022. The ongoing disputes highlight a breakdown in the relationship between the player and the club, suggesting that a separation may be the most practical solution for both sides.
As the situation develops, Ngom’s immediate future remains uncertain, with his priority likely focused on finding a club where he can play regularly and rebuild his career after a turbulent spell at Caen.
