Amad Diallo has credited Michael Carrick with restoring belief and enjoyment at Manchester United, praising the head coach for reconnecting the squad with the club’s identity and supporters.
The young attacker believes Carrick’s history as a decorated former United midfielder has given him a unique authority within the dressing room, one that resonates strongly with players navigating the demands of Old Trafford.
Speaking on the club’s Inside Carrington podcast, Amad underlined the importance of having a manager who understands what the badge represents.
“I think having Michael Carrick as head coach in the team is very important because he knows the club,” he said.
That intimate knowledge, according to Amad, has translated into clear messaging before matches, with Carrick reminding the squad of their responsibility not only to themselves but to the fans who fill the stands each week.
“Before the games he keeps telling us: you guys, you are playing for yourself, but you’re playing also for the fans, and he’s telling us the fans are very important for us.”
Amad suggested that Carrick’s man-management has been central to creating a positive atmosphere around the training ground. Sessions have taken on a renewed energy, with players responding to a coach who combines high standards with an approachable personality.
“Having Carrick is very enjoyable and we enjoy the training. He’s a nice guy. He talks with everyone,” Amad explained.
For Amad, the connection with Carrick runs deeper than the current campaign. The winger revealed he has known the coach since his teenage years, having arrived at United when Carrick was still part of the setup. That familiarity has eased the transition into Carrick’s leadership.
“I’m so lucky because I know him already – he was here when I arrived, when I was 18,” Amad noted
