CHAN 2020: Morocco – Togo, the Hawks' schedule

Following the official draw, Togo’s local national team now knows what lies ahead in Cameroon for the group stage of the 2020 African Nations Championship (CHAN). Placed in Group C, the Sparrowhawks face a demanding challenge against strong opposition as they aim to progress to the knockout rounds of the tournament.

Togo has been drawn alongside defending champions Morocco national football team, Rwanda, and Uganda. The presence of Morocco, who lifted the previous CHAN trophy, immediately raises the level of difficulty in the group. The Atlas Lions are widely regarded as one of the favorites, making Togo’s opening match a crucial test of their preparation and ambition.

The competition officially kicks off on April 4, but Togo will begin their campaign two days later. Their first fixture is scheduled for April 6 against Morocco at the Reunification Stadium in Douala. Facing the reigning champions in the opening match presents both a challenge and an opportunity. A positive result would significantly boost the Sparrowhawks’ confidence and strengthen their chances of advancing from the group.

Togo’s second match will take place on April 10 against Uganda, again at the Reunification Stadium in Douala. Uganda has consistently proven to be a competitive side in regional tournaments, and this encounter could prove decisive in determining the group standings. By the time of this fixture, the dynamics of Group C may already be clearer, adding further pressure to secure a favorable outcome.

The Sparrowhawks will conclude their group stage campaign on April 14 against Rwanda at the Limbe Buea Stadium. Depending on previous results, this final group match could be pivotal in the race for qualification to the quarterfinals. Rwanda, known for their disciplined defensive organization, will not be an easy opponent, making it essential for Togo to maintain focus throughout the tournament.

The 2020 CHAN will open on April 4 with the host nation, Cameroon national football team, taking on Zimbabwe at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaoundé. As hosts, Cameroon will look to make a strong statement from the outset, setting the tone for the rest of the competition.

For Togo, the group stage schedule outlines a demanding path, beginning with the toughest opponent and requiring consistency across three tightly scheduled matches. With preparation underway, the Sparrowhawks will aim to rise to the occasion and make a significant impact on the continental stage.
