The Senegalese delegation, consisting of 120 athletes and other staff members, intended to participate in the 2013 Francophonie Games in Nice. However, they faced challenges related to obtaining visas, and as of the planned departure date, the delegation was still in Dakar. The delay in visa issuance by the consular services of the French embassy in Dakar created frustration among the athletes and officials.
The basketball teams (U25) and Olympic footballers, among others, were affected by the delay in obtaining visas. The president of the basketball teams, Baba Tandian, expressed dissatisfaction with the situation. Some individuals suggested boycotting the Francophonie Games due to the visa issues.
While there were hopes that the matter would be resolved, concerns were raised about the impact on the scheduled competitions, especially for basketball, whose match against Romania was approaching. The delegation was expected to travel by Thursday at the latest, but the situation highlighted challenges in the visa issuance process for athletes on ordered missions.
