Al Ahly have released an official statement clarifying their position after the chaotic scenes that marred their 0-0 draw with Morocco’s AS FAR at Cairo International Stadium in the final round of the CAF Champions League group stage.

The result saw Ahly top Group B with 10 points, one ahead of AS FAR, sending both clubs through.

The club explained that tensions exploded late in the first half with clashes between players and a highly charged atmosphere in the stands, prompting CAF to condemn the incidents as “unacceptable” and refer the case to its disciplinary body.

In its statement, Ahly said that after the first leg in Rabat, where their players were targeted by sharp objects, they chose not to file a formal complaint, only noting observations to CAF in order to protect African competitions and preserve strong ties with Moroccan football.

Al Ahly stressed they warmly received AS FAR’s delegation in Cairo but accused some visiting fans of trying to invade home sections and the pitch, which sparked a negative reaction from a section of Ahly supporters who threw water bottles, behaviour the club firmly rejects.

The club confirmed it has now sent full video evidence to CAF, reiterated its refusal of any fan violence, and underlined that relations with Morocco remain deep and solid, even as AS FAR pursue their own legal escalation and both sides trade conflicting versions of what happened.
