Ivorian Football Federation are stepping up efforts to persuade highly rated striker Ange-Yoan Bonny to commit his international future to the West African nation ahead of the 2025 World Cup tournament.
The Elephants are seeking to bolster their squad with dual national available in an attempt to make a meaningful impact the global showpiece, to be held in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Earlier reports suggested the 22-year-old had chosen to represent the Elephants over France and had even agreed to join the squad for the national team’s training camp scheduled for March, sparking optimism among Ivorian fans eager to see the young forward bolster the country’s attacking options.
However, uncertainty still surrounds Bonny’s international allegiance, with latest reports claiming Bonny currently prioritizes France and is not actively considering a switch in sporting nationality.
Despite the conflicting reports, no official announcement has been made by the player himself, leaving the door slightly open for the Ivorian FA to continue their pursuit. Bonny remains eligible for Ivory Coast, and officials are still hopeful of convincing him to wear the orange jersey.
The forward has enjoyed a promising season in the Serie A, registering five goals and three assists in 19 league appearances for Inter. He has previously represented France at youth level, further highlighting the tug-of-war between the two nations over his international future.
