Austrian-born Ghanaian centre-back Samson Baidoo is facing another frustrating period on the sidelines after RC Lens head coach Pierre Sage confirmed the defender will be unavailable for several weeks.
The 21-year-old, who joined the French outfit last summer is unlikely to return to action before Lens’ Ligue 1 encounter with FC Metz. This comes as a fresh setback for Baidoo, who had only recently recovered from a hamstring injury before suffering a relapse.
Baidoo has already been forced to sit out several important matches for Les Sang et Or, including the 3–1 league loss to Olympique de Marseille, the narrow 1–0 victory over Le Havre, and Lens’ Coupe de France quarter-final qualification against ESTAC Troyes.
Having been ruled out of Saturday’s trip to Paris FC, the highly-rated defender is expected to miss key league clashes against AS Monaco on February 21 and RC Strasbourg on February 27.
Besides, the Austrian-born Ghanaian centre-back will not feature in the Coupe de France tie against Olympique Lyonnais on March 5.
The injury blow comes at a crucial time for Lens, who currently sit second in the Ligue 1 table, just two points behind leaders Paris Saint-Germain in an intense title race.
Highly rated for his composure, reading of the game, and defensive intelligence, Baidoo has established himself as an important part of Lens’ backline this season. His absence will test the squad’s depth as the club continues its pursuit of domestic honours.
