The Senegalese state spent a total of 1,704,457,608 CFA francs (approximately 2,598,428.87 euros) to finance the participation of the national football team, the Lions, in various international competitions in the year. The majority of the expenses, amounting to 1,437,287,864 CFA francs (84% of the total), were dedicated to the senior team. The breakdown of expenses for the senior team included 942,437,000 CFA francs for the 2012 African Cup of Nations (CAN), 224,842,177 CFA francs for World Cup qualifiers against Liberia and Uganda, 55,327,000 CFA francs for a friendly match against Morocco, and 214,681,687 CFA francs for two unsuccessful meetings with Ivory Coast.
