Mark Mampassi: Centre-back linked with move to Azerbaijan side Turan Tovuz

Lokomotiv Moscow defender Mark Mampassi has completed a loan move to Turan Tovuz, joining the Azerbaijani club from the Russian Premier Liga side on a temporary deal. The centre-back’s switch is registered as a loan transfer, with his contract at Turan-Tovuz IK running from 2026-02-10 to 2026-06-30, after which he is scheduled to return to Lokomotiv Moscow. The move sends the 22-year-old to the Premyer Liqa with a current market value listed at €400k.

The transfer is a straightforward loan, with no permanent fee recorded in the data, and is formally described as a loan transfer. An upcoming transfer entry already confirms that Mampassi is due back at Lokomotiv Moscow when the agreement with Turan-Tovuz IK expires on 2026-06-30, indicating this spell in Azerbaijan is, for now, a short-term opportunity rather than a definitive exit from Russia.

Mampassi arrives in Tovuz as a right-footed centre-back whose main position is in the heart of defence. Born in Donetsk and holding both Russian and Congolese nationality, he represents a cross-border profile that has increasingly defined his career. From a development perspective, the move continues a pattern of international stints: after coming through Shakhtar Donetsk’s youth ranks, progressing from the U17s to Shakhtar Donetsk U19, he gained first-team experience on loan at FC Mariupol in Ukraine before stepping into senior European and Eurasian football.

In early 2022 he joined Lokomotiv Moscow on a standard transfer from Shakhtar Donetsk U19, at a time when his market value had climbed as high as €1.5m. Subsequent loans to Antalyaspor in Türkiye and KV Kortrijk in Belgium exposed him to the Süper Lig and Belgian Pro League respectively, broadening his experience across three different top divisions before his return to Russia and now this move to Azerbaijan’s Premyer Liqa.

His valuation has fluctuated significantly over the past few seasons. After peaking at €1.5m shortly after signing for Lokomotiv, successive updates saw his value adjusted downward during spells in Türkiye and Belgium. The latest figure of €400k at Lokomotiv Moscow reflects both his age and a recent period where he has not been able to re-establish that earlier upward trajectory, making this loan a potential platform to rebuild form and profile.

From a contractual standpoint, the clearly defined loan window at Turan-Tovuz IK, ending on 2026-06-30, means his medium-term future remains tied to Lokomotiv Moscow. However, as with many short-term deals, the arrangement naturally raises longer-term questions. Should Lokomotiv elect not to extend his deal beyond its existing term, or should no further agreement be found after this and any subsequent spells, the defender could ultimately find himself moving into free-agent territory later in his career.

For Turan Tovuz, the signing brings in a physically imposing 1.85 m defender who has already sampled top-flight football in Ukraine, Russia, Türkiye and Belgium. For Mampassi, it is another step abroad, this time into Azerbaijan’s Premyer Liqa, with the chance to reassert the potential that once made him a seven-figure prospect and to influence how clubs across Europe and beyond view his next move when his current obligations with Lokomotiv and Turan-Tovuz IK are fulfilled.
