Former Chelsea prospect Gaël Kakuta is being linked with a surprise move to Greek side AE Larisa, with the free agent reportedly attracting interest from the Super League 1 club.
The 34-year-old attacking midfielder, currently without a club after leaving Turkish outfit Sakaryaspor, has emerged as a rumoured target for Larisa according to transfer listings. No fee would be involved, and the probability of the deal remains officially unclear, listed only as “?” in the latest update.
Kakuta, valued at around €350k, would represent a low-cost, experienced option for Larisa as they look to add creativity between the lines. Left-footed and operating primarily as an attacking midfielder, he has spent recent seasons moving between Esteghlal FC in Iran and Sakaryaspor in Türkiye, before becoming a free agent in February 2026.
Born in Lille on 21 June 1991, Kakuta holds both DR Congo and French nationality and has amassed a notably varied career across Europe and Asia. After joining Chelsea’s youth ranks from RC Lens, he embarked on a series of loans that took him to Fulham, Bolton Wanderers, Dijon, Vitesse Arnhem, Lazio and Rayo Vallecano, before permanent spells at Sevilla, Hebei in China, Deportivo La Coruña, Amiens and RC Lens.
His market value once peaked at €8m during a productive spell with Lens in 2021, but has gradually fallen in recent years, dropping to €350k at Sakaryaspor by the end of 2025. That profile makes him a potentially attractive short-term gamble for Larisa, who could gain a technically gifted playmaker with experience in Ligue 1, La Liga, Serie A and the Chinese Super League.
If a move to AE Larisa does materialise, it could offer Kakuta one more opportunity to reassert his quality on a European stage and shape the final chapter of a career that has already spanned some of the game’s most diverse leagues.
