Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has offered a positive and reassuring update on the condition of his first-choice striker, Jean-Philippe Mateta, easing concerns over the forward’s availability for the remainder of the season.
The enterprising attacker suffered an injury setback last year, sparking concerns about his availability for matches as the season unfolds.
But Glasner has disclosed Mateta is expected to spend only a short period on the sidelines. Glasner was quick to play down fears of a long-term setback, stressing that the issue is far from serious and will not require any surgical intervention.
Palace medical team opted for a conservative recovery plan, which should allow the French striker to return to action within a matter of weeks rather than months.
The absence of surgery significantly reduces the risk of complications and shortens the overall rehabilitation process.
“Jean-Philippe Mateta will miss a few weeks, but he will not need surgery,” Glasner confirmed, underlining the positive outlook surrounding the player’s recovery.
While he is set to miss the immediate fixtures, the expectation is that the forward will be back in contention soon, providing a timely boost as Palace navigate a crucial phase of the Premier League campaign.
The 28-year-old Congolese attacker has made 34 appearances this season, scoring 10 goals and providing two assists across competitions.
