Kaizer Chiefs head coach Khalil Ben Youssef has labeled their upcoming CAF Confederation Cup group clash against Zamalek as a “final.”

The South African side travel to Egypt on Sunday for the decisive final game of Group D, which also features Al-Masry and Zesco United.

Speaking to MBC Egypt 2, Ben Youssef acknowledged the tough nature of the group. “From the outset, it was clear that Group D, with Kaizer Chiefs, Zamalek, Al-Masry, and Zesco, would be the most competitive,” he said.

“In almost every round, a different team has led the group, and predictions suggested that Zamalek, Al-Masry, and Kaizer Chiefs would fight for the two spots to advance.”

He also highlighted Zesco’s threat, noting their performances in Zambia and in South Africa.

“Zesco is a strong side and gave us a tough time in both matches. Their win against Zamalek surprised some, but it’s a reflection of how competitive this group is.”

Looking ahead to Sunday, Ben Youssef emphasized the stakes.

“Only two of the three—Zamalek, Al-Masry, and Kaizer Chiefs—will advance. On paper, Al-Masry’s path seems easier, but I expect their match to be challenging as well. For us, the game against Zamalek is like a final: one point secures our qualification, while Zamalek must win to progress.”
