The Moroccan Football Federation is moving toward carefully planned adjustments within the technical staff of the national team as part of early preparations for the upcoming FIFA World Cup finals, set to be hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The initiative reflects the federation’s intention to assess the previous phase and its outcomes without resorting to sweeping changes that could disrupt team stability.

This approach follows the federation’s earlier decision to settle speculation surrounding head coach Walid Regragui’s future, reaffirming its confidence in him despite Morocco’s failure to reach the final of the Africa Cup of Nations.

According to Al-Sabah newspaper, the federation is working closely with Regragui to restructure the technical staff by integrating respected national figures capable of adding value through technical analysis and close player monitoring, while preserving harmony within the coaching setup.

Within this framework, Mohamed Wahbi, head coach of Morocco’s under-23 national team, has emerged as a strong candidate to join the senior team’s technical staff.

The federation is reportedly considering appointing him as an assistant to the technical director, a move aimed at reinforcing continuity across the national teams and capitalising on his in-depth knowledge of emerging talents.

Wahbi is expected to contribute a detailed technical database on players from the under-20 national team that won the World Cup, many of whom are tipped to form the core of the Olympic team. He is set to oversee their development while potentially taking on additional responsibilities within the senior team, in line with a long-term strategic vision.

Reports suggest that Wahbi’s possible appointment could lead to the departure of one of Regragui’s current assistants, either Rachid Benmahmoud or Abdelaziz Bouhazma.

The federation is keen on assembling a technical structure that blends experience with a deep understanding of Morocco’s talent pool, not only in preparation for the 2026 World Cup but also with an eye on building a competitive squad for the 2030 finals, which Morocco will co-host with Spain and Portugal.

The proposed structure may also involve several seasoned national figures such as Tariq Sektioui, Fathi Jamal, Hussein Ammouta, Noureddine Naybet and Nabil Baha. These names are expected to take on advisory roles focused on analysing opponents, preparing technical reports and tracking the team’s performance development, all aimed at injecting renewed momentum into the national setup.

Through this strategy, the Moroccan Football Federation hopes to create a comprehensive technical environment that will enable the national team to deliver a strong showing at the next World Cup, while also laying the foundation for sustained success in the years ahead.
