Ivorian midfielder Modibo Fofana has joined Belgian side Royal Antwerp on loan with an option to buy, marking his first move into European football.
The 18-year-old, who progressed through the youth system at JAC Angré in Abidjan, described the transfer as a “dream come true” and vowed to make the most of the opportunity.
Fofana said: “It’s a huge source of pride for me. Leaving Abidjan to join a club like Antwerp is a dream come true. I’ve worked very hard to get here, and I know this is just the beginning.”
Fofana acknowledged the challenge of adapting to European football, highlighting the faster pace and tactical demands of the Belgian league.
“I’m discovering a different style of football, faster, more intense, more tactically structured. Here, every detail counts. I’m here to learn, to improve every day, and to show that I deserve this opportunity,” he added.
The young midfielder also praised Royal Antwerp’s structured approach to player development.
“The club presented me with a clear plan. They believe in my potential and want to support me every step of the way. That reassured me a lot. I’m not just here to play; I’m here to grow, to become a more complete player and mentally stronger,” Fofana explained.
He paid tribute to the people who supported him along the way, including his family and coaches at JAC Angré.
“Without them, I wouldn’t be here today. I want to make them proud,” he said.
Fofana also outlined his ambitions for his first European adventure: “My goal is simple: to work hard, earn my place, and help the team. I want to gradually establish myself, experience top-level European football, and perhaps open the door to bigger challenges in the future.”
Royal Antwerp will next face KV Mechelen in their 24th league match, and Fofana could be in line to make an impact as he begins his European career.
The Belgian side’s fans will hope the Ivorian midfielder’s arrival can help strengthen their squad in the push for a top finish.
