Multiple reports indicate that Morocco head coach Walid Regragui has submitted his resignation to the Royal Moroccan Football Federation.

AfricaSoccer.com understands that Regragui is reluctant to continue his tenure with the Atlas Lions into the next phase and has opted to bring his spell to an end, although the reasons behind his decision have not been officially disclosed.

The resignation has not yet been finalised and remains subject to approval by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation. Should the federation reject the request, Regragui would be expected to remain in charge until further notice.

The development comes at a particularly delicate moment, with a major global tournament on the horizon, casting uncertainty over the future of Morocco’s technical bench in the months ahead.

Regragui’s reported decision follows closely on the heels of Morocco’s narrow 1-0 defeat to Senegal in the Africa Cup of Nations final.

Meanwhile, the Atlas Lions are scheduled to face Ecuador in an international friendly in March as part of their preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Regragui is widely credited for leading Morocco to a historic third-place finish at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, the best performance by an African nation at the tournament.
