The FIFA World Cup trophy made a high-profile stop in Morocco on Wednesday as part of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour by Coca-Cola, building excitement ahead of this summer’s tournament.
Organised by FIFA in partnership with long-time sponsor Coca-Cola, the global tour is giving fans around the world a rare opportunity to see football’s most coveted prize up close before the 2026 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Morocco’s inclusion forms part of an ambitious journey that began on January 3 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and will span more than 150 days, covering 75 stops across 30 FIFA member associations.
The Moroccan leg of the tour was held at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Salé, a venue widely regarded as a hub of elite football development in Africa, thanks to its state-of-the-art training facilities and role in nurturing the continent’s next generation of talent.
Speaking at the official presentation, Charbel El Beirouthy, General Manager of The Coca-Cola Company for Morocco and Mauritania, said the company was proud to host the trophy in Morocco, noting that the Mohammed VI Football Complex reflects sustained investment in world-class football infrastructure across the region.
The event also attracted several football icons, including former France international and World Cup winner Marcel Desailly, now a FIFA ambassador.
Desailly described the tour as a “symbolic journey that brings fans closer to the magic of the game,” highlighting football’s unique power to unite people across cultures and borders.
The stop in Morocco further underlined the country’s growing influence on the global football stage, following its historic run at the 2022 World Cup, where the Atlas Lions became the first African and Arab nation to reach the tournament’s semifinals.
